The NCPI Fall 2024 Workshop, held on September 25-26, 2024, in Rockville, MD, brought together a diverse group of researchers, developers, and stakeholders to collaborate on breaking down silos and building bridges within the biomedical research ecosystem. The workshop included discussions on data interoperability, integration challenges, and the adoption of standards. Highlights included updates from the NIH Office of Data Science Strategy, interoperability project teams' success stories, and NCPI future plans. Participants explored major challenges in interoperability, the importance of community engagement, and discussed concrete steps forward to enhance NCPI's impact.
Planning for the next NCPI workshop is underway. The event is tentatively scheduled for two days in late April 2025. The workshop will focus on conducting working sessions to address key technical challenges for Interoperability Projects. Attendance will be by invitation only, targeting key NCPI program participants and Interoperability Project representatives. Updates will be posted on this page, so please check back periodically. The workshop will support both in-person and virtual attendance.
On June 5, 2024, the NCPI program held its second Virtual Touchpoint, focusing on Interoperability Projects and attended by award institutions, companies, NIH ODSS representatives, and NCPI Working Group members. The event aimed to continue engagement from the first Touchpoint, allow Interoperability Projects to introduce their work and goals, discuss common challenges and integration opportunities, and identify topics for the upcoming NCPI Workshop in September 2024. The NCPI Program has produced a summary report of this event available below.
June 2024 – NCPI Virtual Touchpoint on Interoperability Summary (Public Version)Members of NIH Cloud Platform Interoperability (NCPI) took part in the 2024 GA4GH Connect meeting in Switzerland. A goal of this meeting was the introduction of new Driver Projects including NCPI, the NHLBI BioData Catalyst (BDC), the Biomedical Research Hub (BRH), and others. NCPI representatives presented on program needs, focusing on data discovery and data governance challenges.
Key points of NCPI participation included strategic engagement plans for NCPI with GA4GH, as well as collaborative discussions with representatives from NHGRI, NLM-NCBI, and NCI. The NCPI Administrative Coordinating Center (ACC) also held constructive discussions regarding RAS implementations to enable secure researcher access to NIH data sets, in collaboration with NHLBI BDC-RECOVER and NHGRI AnVIL representatives. A full summary of the meeting, provided by GA4GH, is linked below.
April 2024 – GA4GH Connect Meeting ReportOn January 19, 2024, the NCPI program hosted a Virtual Touchpoint event with over 70 attendees from various NIH Institutes, the NIH Office of Data Science Strategy, and non-NIH institutions involved in NCPI Participating Partner Systems. The event aimed to discuss interoperability topics, share ideas and concerns, and build community momentum for the next NCPI Workshop. The NCPI Program has produced a summary report of this event available below.
